Construction of the 24,000m² facility consisting of 22,000m² of warehouse and 2,000m² of offices, has already commenced. The facility has been designed to provide Takealot with expansion options to add an additional 50,000m² of warehousing to the initial phase, which would increase its size to more than 70,000m².

The new Takealot DC is designed for sustainability and will feature a dedicated solar PV installation, energy-efficient lighting systems, rainwater harvesting and water-saving xeriscape landscaping. The cross-dock facility will provide clear racking height of up to 18 metres and specialised floors.

Takealot’s Customer Collection Centre of 6,700m², which includes expansion opportunities with the potential to grow to 17,000m², is also under construction at Richmond Park. The Takealot Customer Collection Centre will be ready for Takealot to begin trading in March 2022.

Arno du Plessis, Atterbury’s Western Cape development manager, says, “We are excited to extend our relationship with Takealot for its second premises at Richmond Park, and especially for a landmark distribution centre of this scale.”

The new DC, located in Richmond Park’s northern precinct, will be less than a kilometre from the Customer Collection Centre in the retail-focused southern precinct of the park. It is also a couple of kilometres from the Takealot large logistics centre in nearby Montague Park, reinforcing the online retailers’ presence in the area.

Ryan Winkelman, Distribution Centre Development Manager at Takealot.com, comments, “Our distribution centre locations are carefully selected. Ensuring a first-rate delivery network with strategic distribution centre locations, like Richmond Park, coupled with a fit-for-purpose building design that has the opportunity to expand, will play a key role in achieving Takealot’s long-term growth ambitions.”

Exceptional transport accessibility is provided at Richmond Park, with extensive road upgrades facilitating easy access from both the N1 and N7 highways. It is the ideal point for Takealot to easily and efficiently link into the Western Cape’s logistics infrastructure and connect with its customers.

Richmond Park is an 84ha site that is part of a milestone land restitution settlement. The land is owned by the Richmond Park Communal Property Association (CPA) – a group of 401 families representing 5,300 people spanning five generations – who were forcibly removed from it between 1972 and 1984. In 2014, the land was transferred back to the CPA. The Richmond Park Community leased the land to the Richmond Park Development Company and has a shareholding in the development company. It is among the largest property developments in Cape Town, with 300,000m² of greenfield mixed-use development rights. Its major shareholders are Atterbury, Old Mutual Properties, the Richmond Park CPA as well as Qubic 3 Dimensional Property, Bethel Property and Atlantis.

The official handover to South Africa’s Olympic medallists, swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker, surfer Bianca Buitendag, and their coaches will be on September 9, 2021, at USN’s offices, in Centurion, Pretoria.

Armond Boshoff, Atterbury CEO, confirmed that South Africa’s latest Olympic world-record holder, swimming sensation Tatjana Schoenmaker, will receive R400,000 for her gold medal in the 200m breaststroke event for women and R200,000 for her silver medal in the 100m breaststroke event. Bianca Buitendag will receive R200,000 for the silver medal she won on her surfboard in Tokyo.

Rocco Meiring, who has coached Tatjana for the past ten years, will receive R150,000 and Greg Emslie, Bianca’s coach, R50,000. The remaining R50,000 will be allocated by way of a bursary to an upcoming athlete.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response from ordinary people, businesses and community organisations, atterburytrust.org will continue Spansaam as a fundraising platform for similar future initiatives to make up for governmental shortfalls, whether on the sports, culture or community front.

Atterbury, the leading property investor and developer, will develop a new 9,300sqm distribution and office facility to consolidate sustainable technology company Rubicon into new headquarters in Richmond Park, Milnerton, Cape Town.

Atterbury and USN have just announced that the two companies are jointly donating R500 000 to Olympic medal winners. The Atterbury Trust is also launching Spansaam, a crowdfunding project to reward the medal winners. Other organisations and individuals are invited to contribute to the fund. The aim is to reach the target amount of R1 300 000 within a week. The fund intends to pay out R500 000 for a gold medal and R250 000 per silver medal and a fixed amount for the coaches of medal winners. If the target amount is exceeded, the surplus will remain in a trust account to supplement the government shortfall, whether on the sports, cultural or community front.

SASCOC’s president, Barry Hendricks, announced over the weekend that no financial compensation is available for South Africa’s only two medal winners in the recent Olympic Games in Japan, swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker and surfer Bianca Buitendag. This statement has since been repudiated and SASCOC said that negotiations about compensation are still in process.

GROOTfm 90.5 het besoek afgelê by twee gemeenskap-radiostasies wat ook slagoffers van die onluste was – Alex FM 89.1 (geleë in Alexandra) en Mams Radio 92.9 (geleë in Mamelodi). Die twee radiostasies het geweldige skade gelei toe ‘looters’ in hulle onderskeie studio’s ingevaar het en toerusting tot die waarde van honderde duisende rande beskadig en gesteel het.

On 18 May 2011, the doors of the phenomenal Atterbury Theatre opened for the first time, and the stage was inaugurated with the impressive musical Stuur groete aan Mannetjies Roux. All 24 star-studded performances were sold out, thus ushering in a new era in South African theatre. In the past decade, more than 2 881 shows, productions and functions have been presented in the theatre that translates into approximately 865 671 feet that crossed the threshold of the theatre. At the beginning of 2019, the theatre was upgraded, and the purchase of a brand-new Model C Steinway & Sons grand piano was the crowning glory of this upgrade.

The Atterbury Theatre embodies the commitment of Atterbury and the Atterbury Trust to promote the performing arts and the development of talent. It is widely regarded as one of the best theatres in the country and offers artists in Gauteng, in particular, a world-class space where music, drama and various other performing arts can be embodied. In addition to productions, it also often hosts conferences and corporate functions. The theatre also houses an excellent recording studio and has been involved in a host of local and international projects.

In retrospect, many musical productions and plays with national and international artists, school and dance productions, beauty, music and gymnastics competitions, corporate functions, gala evenings and dinners have been presented in the theatre. There has even been a wedding and an album launch where guests could sit at tables on the stage to experience the theatre from a different perspective.

During the national lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the theatre entered the digital space in the form of a television and music studio where online concerts were recorded and broadcast. The very first concert was a live broadcast with more than 120 000 viewers from around the world. This was the beginning of a dream that grew to 39 online performances in the digital library. The theatre is now also able to provide live streaming services for any function.

The final performance of Nataniel’s latest show, Butterfly, on Tuesday 18 May 2021, was a fitting celebration of the theatre’s tenth birthday, and in addition to the show, theatregoers were entertained with a celebratory video focusing on highlights of the past ten years as well as messages from well-loved Atterbury Theatre artists. Atterbury Group CEO and founder trustee of Atterbury Trust, Louis van der Watt, addressed the audience, thanking theatre staff, artists and the loyal supporters of the Atterbury Theatre for their unwavering support.

The Atterbury Theatre celebrates this special milestone with deep gratitude to each artist, theatregoer and technician who, despite many challenges, believes in the continued existence of the arts in South Africa and generously support it.

CDC Group, the UK’s development finance institution (DFI) and one of the largest impact investors in Africa, has announced a USD $36 million (500 million Rand) commitment to Divercity Urban Property Fund (Divercity), an affordable housing platform focused on the regeneration of South African cities. This investment will fund the construction and management of more than 2,500 new residential units over the next 5 years predominantly in Johannesburg. It will provide quality, affordable and environmentally sustainable housing for low and middle-income households in well-located but underinvested neighbourhoods in major South African cities. This transaction was also funded by South African impact investor Futuregrowth and existing Divercity shareholders.

South Africa faces a housing shortage of ~2.3 million units. A significant majority of its lower-cost housing is built on the urban periphery. This limits residential options for low and middle income households to predominantly informal, congested and low-quality housing on the outskirts of cities.  It also impedes access to essential services including schools, healthcare facilities, public transport networks and employment hubs needed for improved social inclusion and living standards.

CDC’s capital will enable Divercity to grow its rental housing platform that provides low and middle-income households with safe, inclusive and affordable housing options. Construction of the new residential units will help address the growing housing deficit and issues of spatial segregation in South Africa, meeting the needs of people with limited other housing options available, including women, single parents and young families. Up to 4,000 construction and permanent operational jobs are expected to be created, resulting in new economic opportunities, and boosting employment.

The new units will be constructed to green building standards, demonstrating both CDC and Divercity’s commitment to minimising greenhouse gas emissions and supporting climate change mitigation, in alignment with CDC’s commitment to invest from a climate lens.

Divercity has also acquired its residential property and asset manager, Ithemba Property, that has a 20-year track record in managing affordable rental housing. Through the creative design and structure of this platform by investors CDC, Ithemba and Atterbury – Divercity will be underpinned by market leading property development and asset management expertise in rental housing which will be a competitive differentiator.

Hoofargitek van Anthrop Architects en van die GROOT Boomhuis, Leon van der Westhuizen, vertel dat hy opdrag gekry het vir ‘n “container”-struktuur wat as ‘n satelliet-ateljee tussen twee bestaande okkerneutbome opgerig en aangewend gaan word. Met die klein balkon, vorm die ateljee ‘n visuele verbintenis met The Village tydens uitsending, vir toekomstige kunstenaaroptredes, interaksie met verbygangers en ‘n mooi uitsig van The Village. Volgens Leon was die grootste uitdaging die posisionering van die “container”-studio, wat ondersteun word deur vier stewige staalkolomme met groot oorhange. “Dit skep letterlik die gevoel dat die studio in die lug hang tussen die takke”, sê Leon.

‘n Elegante spiraaltrap, geklee in vertikale houtlatte, lei jou na die ingang van die studio. Die struktuur skitter in die vroeë-oggend se ooste-son met staal- en hout-skuifskerms wat handmatig beheer word om die buite-lig uit te hou, of om die buitelug in te laat.

GROOTfm 90.5 is oorstelp oor die nuwe avontuur wat hulle te wagte is in die GROOT Boomhuis. Dit verteenwoordig alles wat hulle is: groei, vooruitgang en bou.
